Chapter One
The October moon hung in the gray sky, casting an iridescent glow across the mansion. The shutters hung loosely next to the windows, swaying back and forth in the crisp night wind. A bitter aroma cascaded down the front steps to the sidewalk where Trisha Maitland stood, and her hands cupped over her mouth to filter the putrid odor.
As she glanced up towards the massive front door, she noticed a peculiar emblem. Curiosity stirred and drew her forward. She ascended the steps hesitantly to gain a better view. Halfway to the door, she recognized the symbol.
“It’s a dragon!” she gasped.
Chapter Two
Charles gloated over the manipulation he used on Gordon. How he relished the power he held over the others, a dictatorial power which was passed down to him centuries ago by his ancestors. Unknown to his colleagues, this power had arisen out of a pact that had been nurtured carefully over the decades. This power gave prestige in return for undying allegiance and wealth in exchange for the deposit of one’s human soul. Choices had been freely made, and now the piper was calling. It was time to pay up.
At the inception of the pact, each of the six had been given power and riches in return for the domination of their souls. The prince ruled over all of them. They couldn’t possibly turn away now. They understood their pledge of loyalty. Soon, they would rise to rule the entire world and usher in the domination of the New World Order.
Chapter Three
Pastor Thomas suddenly became somber and spoke once again. “Brian, I’m so humbled by God allowing us to experience His tangible Presence. The God of the Universe has chosen to reveal Himself to us. I have a clearer understanding and vision of how deeply He loves us and cares for His creation, a creation that has brought Him so much pain. Yet, He longs for fellowship and intimacy with His people. He is a forgiving God. There is nothing we can do to make Him love us more and nothing we can do to make Him love us less! His unconditional love remains steadfast and unending.”
Brian’s heart was touched beyond measure by these words. He understood. All fear and doubt had been removed. It just disappeared. He realized in a deeper, new way what an extraordinary honor it was to serve such a mighty, merciful, majestic God.
