The Empty Promise of Power
Charles Vandenburg, a key figure in The Dark Birth of the Secret Council, has everything. Wealth, influence, and global power. Yet his thirst for control drives him into alliances with darkness. His story is a warning about the danger of chasing power apart from God.
From the beginning of history, humanity has been tempted by the same lie. In Genesis 3:5 the serpent whispered to Eve, “You will be like God.” Satan even offered Jesus all the kingdoms of the world if He would bow in worship. The enemy has always promised power without submission to God.
Why Power Without God Never Satisfies
- It demands more. Greed has no finish line. The more Charles conquered, the emptier he became. We see the same pattern today in endless striving for success, money, or recognition.
- It costs the soul. Mark 8:36 asks, “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?” Worldly power is the most expensive trade of all.
- It ends in emptiness. Empires rise and fall, but the Kingdom of God lasts forever.
Faith-based thrillers like The Dark Birth of the Secret Council pull back the curtain on the high stakes of pursuing power. Real greatness is not found in control. It is found in surrender to Christ. Jesus said in Matthew 20:26, “Whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant.”
